Team

The coaches you'd be working with.

You're matched to one coach, and that coach is yours for as long as the work is useful. Everyone's needs are different. We take your preferences, your pace, and what you're carrying into account, and match you to the coach who fits. It also means that if your co-founder or someone else on your senior team needs support, the team at Refactor=EQ can take that on too.

Gina Engracia

Co-founder & Coach

Gina helps entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of their personal and professional lives with clarity and purpose. Her approach holds across contexts and life stages, and it rests on more than twenty-five years in psychology and the study of human potential.

In her private practice she works with startup founders whose ventures are collectively valued at over $50 billion, and with investors and leaders of enterprises managing more than $300 billion in assets. She is also an Executive Coach at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a Facilitator for its Interpersonal Dynamics course, which develops emotional intelligence and influence.

Her coaching is collaborative. She works from the wisdom and potential already present in each client, a stance shaped by her separate practice as a psychotherapist licensed in California, New York, and Florida. Outside the work she sings, walks in nature, and is still looking for the best mangoes.

Diana Chu

Co-founder & Coach

Diana coaches founders, senior operators, and investors on the intersection of performance, identity, and relational intelligence. Her work starts with the vision a client has for the company and for their life, and the gap between that and how they're actually experiencing their days. Much of it happens in the territory most of her clients have spent a decade avoiding, including the body, where she helps people access the intelligence they've been living above.

She is an Interpersonal Dynamics Facilitator at Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she works with MBA students and executives on emotional intelligence, communication, and self-awareness under pressure. The Stanford work means she has direct, repeated exposure to how high-achieving people actually relate in rooms, which is rarer than it sounds.

Alongside Refactor=EQ, Diana runs a separate licensed therapy practice at dianachutherapy.com. The two practices do not share records, and coaching clients are not automatically therapy clients.

Stanford GSB Interpersonal Dynamics Facilitator
Ling Lam, coach at Refactor=EQ
Coach

Ling Lam

Coach

Ling shipped hardware before he worked with the people who build it. He graduated with distinction from Stanford with a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering and was part of the original engineering team behind the world's first HDMI chip. He has sat in the seat most of our clients sit in, and he remembers what it costs.

He then spent ten years providing onsite counseling at Google, and brings twenty years of clinical experience to his coaching as a licensed psychotherapist with a PhD in Psychology and an MA in Counseling Psychology. A decade inside Google means he has seen, at close range, the specific ways high-performing technical people come apart and put themselves back together.

Ling is a Lecturer in Management at Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he teaches two sections of the Interpersonal Dynamics course, pairing neuroscience research with experiential learning, and serves on the faculty of Interpersonal Dynamics for High-Performance Executives. Outside the work he walks, listens to podcasts, and reports to a cat named Frodo.

Strategic advisors

The people who keep us fluent in your world.

The coaching stays between coach and client. The advisors keep us sharp on the operating context around our clients: capital, governance, and the legal and financial machinery a company grows inside.

Chris Hollenbeck

Strategic Advisor

Chris has sat on most sides of the table a founder ever faces. He started as a banker at Hambrecht & Quist, advising on IPOs and M&A, then became a partner at Granite Ventures, where he led investments in thirty companies and served on more than twenty boards, several of them public.

In 2017 he crossed from investor to operator as CFO of Smule, where the executional reality of scaling a company stopped being theoretical for him. Since then he has advised companies ahead of their public offerings and served as CFO of Griffin Gaming Partners, a venture capital firm. He holds a BA in American Studies from Stanford.

Where we stay current

We don't practice in isolation.

Gina and Diana are members of The Inner Circle, the private community Startup Snapshot runs for people who work on founder psychology: coaches, therapists, psychiatrists, researchers, and the people building tools for founder well-being. Most of them are looking at the same patterns we are, from angles we don't have.

The connection isn't decorative. The Founder Well-being Check we publish is adapted from research by Michael Freeman, who sits on the Inner Circle's advisory board. The instruments we hand to clients came from somewhere, and we would rather show you where than imply we invented them.

We take from that field and we put work back into it. It's why the resource library on this site is free, unlocked, and asks nothing of you.
